Open Milling at Le Moulin de Quetivel

October 6, 10:00 am4:00 pm

Come and watch the entire milling process from start to finish at Jersey’s only remaining working watermill. This Autumn the Trust will be milling Jersey wheat, farmed traditionally at Le Tacheron in Trinity by Le Maistre family – with the help of their Shire horse Ringo – and threshed at the Pallot Steam Museum.

Open Milling is a very special date in the Trust’s calendar because it is the only opportunity when visitors can watch the whole milling process from start to finish.

Special activities on the day

• Come and watch the Trust’s Rangers as they open the sluice gates to release the water from the Mill Pond
• Follow the water as it travels along the leat to the Mill – a great opportunity for visitors to walk the new cycle path
• Admire the ancient waterwheel, which powers the giant mill stones that grind the wheat
• Enjoy a free guided walk to Tesson Mill with Blue Badge Guide Jean Treleven
• Learn about Jersey’s milling heritage from our very own miller
• Meet the miller’s wife, who will be busy making bread in the historic kitchen
• Purchase some freshly milled Genuine Jersey flour – perfect for baking and bread making
• Enjoy refreshments and homemade cakes, served by the Trust’s volunteers in the small tearoom overlooking the meadow

Free Guided Walks will run at the following times

10.00 am Mill Pond to Quétivel Mill
11.30 am Quétivel Mill to Tesson Mill

Adults £3.00; Children £1.00 Trust Members FREE

Please use public transport (Bus Route 8) or cycle to the Mill along the new cycle track.
