A beautifully restored house where you can feel the family have just left the room you are in. Some surprising experiences and a fascinating place to take older children. Super shop too with different kinds of products to purchase. Free entry for National Trust members.16 New Street
We spent the evening with friends and family partying at the remarkable 16 New Street, which really did live up to the occasion. My partner’s favourite book is ‘Pride and Prejudice’, so she was able to pretend to be Lizzie for the evening. Luckily, there was no lake from which I was expected to emerge!

This was a delightful property to visit. The guides were informative, especially the family cook in the kitchen. She even had some nibbles to taste! Because it was such a miserable day the candle effect lighting in the house really gave a good impression of how it was to live by candle light. Sadly the house is now surrounded by the town, but it’s possible to imagine how impressive it must have been standing in its own grounds. The NT have done a great job in restoring it to its former glory. Really worth visitingGeorgian House 16 New Street
